This page gives instructions on
setting up your computers built in dialer program to dial a local access
point and connect to the internet. You must already have an active dialup
account, the user ID, password and local access phone number.
Note: @dialuprealm.com dialup users
should use 'smtp.dialuprealm.com' as their SMTP email server setting.
All others should use 'mail.yourdomain.com' for POP3 and SMTP.
Which OS
are you using?
◊Windows XP
Follow the instructions below to setup your windows XP dialer
- Go to Start, Settings,
Control Panel
- Locate and double click on
Internet Options
- Click Connections at the top
- Click Setup in the top right
hand corner
- This will open the Internet
Connection Wizard
- There will be 3 choices.
Please choose the one that says “I want to configure my internet
connection manually or connect through a local area network”
- Click Next
- There should be a dot next to
connect using a phone line and modem
- Click Next
- Now it is asking for your
dial up number. Please remove the check mark from dial using area code
and country code.
- Click into the phone number
field and enter your access number. If you have to dial your area code
for local calls, please include it at the front of the access number in
the same field.
- Click Next
- Enter your dial up user name
and password in all lower case characters
- click next
- Now change the connection
name to 'Dialup Acct'
- Click Next
- Click "Finish"

4.0
Follow the
instructions below to setup your windows NT 4.0
dialer

Double click on "My Computer"

Double click on "Dial up Networking"

Double click on "New"

Name the connection 'Dialup Acct'

Click "next"
- Next click that you're calling the Internet and to
send your plain text password

Enter your chosen dialup access number (Note- if you have to dial your
area code for local calls, include it in the telephone number field)

98/2k/ME
Follow the
instructions below to setup your windows 98a/ME/2000
dialer
- Go to Start, Settings,
Control Panel
- Locate and double click on
Internet Options
- Click Connections at the top
- Click Setup in the top right

- This will open the Internet

want to setup an Internet Mail account. Answer "yes"
- Click Next
- If you see a screen that asks
for a display name, enter your preference and click next. If you have a
screen that asks to "setup a new mail account" or "use and existing mail
account" choose "create new mail account".
- Click next
- Enter your email address
- Your incoming mail server is
a POP3. Click into the middle field and type: mail.yourdomain.net. Then
click into the bottom field and type:
mail.yourdomain.net.
- Click Next
- Your account name is already
filled out for you. Enter your password and make sure there is a check
mark next to "remember password"
- click Next
- Click Finish
◊Windows 98v1
Follow the
instructions below to setup your windows 98v1 dialer
- Go to Start, Settings,
Control Panel
- Locate and double click on
Internet Options
- Click Connections at the top
- Click Setup in the top right
hand corner
- This will open the Internet
Connection Wizard
- There will be 3 choices.
Please choose the one that says “I have an existing internet account
through a phone line and a modem or a local area network (LAN). Help me
se up my computer to connect to this internet account"
- Click Next
- Choose "Select this option if
you are accessing the internet using an internet service provide or
local area network (LAN)"
- Click Next
- Choose "Connect using my
phone line"
- Click "Next"
- Choose "Create a new dialup
connection"
- Click "Next"
- Now it is asking for your
dial up number. Please remove the check mark from dial using area code
and country code.
- Click into the phone number
field and enter your access number. If you have to dial your area code
for local calls, please include it at the front of the access number in
the same field.
- Click Next
- Choose "No" on the "Advanced
Options" screen
- Click "Next"
- Enter your dial up user name
and password in all lower case characters
- click next
- Now change the connection
name to 'Dialup Acct'
- Click Next
- choose "create new mail
account".
- Click next
- Enter your email address
- Your incoming mail server is
a POP3. Click into the middle field and type: mail.yourdomain.com. Then
click into the bottom field and type:
mail.yourdomain.com.
- Click Next
- Your account name is already
filled out for you. Enter your password and make sure there is a check
mark next to "remember password"
- click Next
- Enter "Anything" as the
friendly name
- Click "Next"
- Choose "No" on the Internet
News Screen
- Click "Next"
- Choose "No" on the Directory
Services Screen
- Click "Next"
- Click "Finish"
◊Windows 95
Follow the
instructions below to setup your windows 95 dialer

Double click on "My Computer"

Double click on "Dial up Networking"

Double click on "Make New Connection"

Name the connection 'Dialup Acct'

Click "next"
-
Enter your chosen dialup access number (Note- if you have to dial your
area code for local calls, include it in the telephone number field)

Click "next"

Click "finish"

Right click on 'Dialup Acct' icon
-
Left click on "Create Shortcut"
- A
message will appear that says "Windows can not create a shortcut her.
Would you like one placed on the desktop instead?
-
Answer "Yes"
-
Close "Dial up Networking"
-
Close "My Computer"
-
Double Click on 'Dialup Acct'
-
Enter your user name and password
-
Click "connect"
◊Mac Internet Setup Assistant
Follow the
instructions below to setup your Mac OS 8.0 or higher dialer
- Open up the Assistants folder and double click
on the Internet Setup Assistant icon.
Click on yes to continue.
- Click yes again to continue
- Click the right arrow to continue
- You will need to enter
'Dialup Acct' as the name for this configuration.
Also ensure that modem is checked before continuing. Enter in the
name as shown above, and click the right arrow to continue
- Select the modem you are using from the drop
down list above. Ensure you have the correct port selected and
tone is selected and then click on the right arrow to continue
- Enter in your Local Call Access number, your
username and your password in the spaces provided. Once
you have done this, click on the right arrow to continue.
- Ensure that No is checked and click on the
right arrow to continue
- There is no IP Configuration so ensure No
is selected and click on the right arrow to continue
- There is no DNS Configuration so ensure that
the DNS and Domain Name fields are blank and click on the
right arrow to continue
- Enter in your email address and your
password in the spaces provided and click on the right arrow to
continue
- Enter in the POP. Ensure you replace
your-username with your username ( For example, if my name
was Bill Smith and my username was bsmith my POP would be
bsmith@mail.yourdomain.comt ) and you will also need to enter in the
SMTP name mail.yourdomain.com
Once you have done this, click on the right arrow to continue
- You have now finished configuring your iMAC for
connection to the internet. To complete your Internet Settings, click
Go Ahead. To connect later, you can either use the Remote Access
section of the Control Strip, or you can use the Remote Access Control
Panel.
